Transitions

Change
between shots or images
|
Fade to
black or white
|
When a
shot fades in or out to black or white
|
Fade
in/ out
|
when the picture gradually turns to a single colour, usually black. Or when a picture gradually appears on screen.
|
Dissolve
|
Similar
to fade, instead of changing to a colour the shot changes to another shot,
gradually.
|
wipe
|
When
one shot replaces another by moving from one side of the frame to the other.
|
Cross
cutting
|
The camera cuts away from one action to another, which can
suggest a connection between these two actions but this is not always the
case.
|
Continuity
editing
|
Editing
between shots to emphasise a smooth transition of time.
Shows
action and reaction.
|
Match
on action
|
When
shots are edited to show how actions link together, for example: showing the
sequence of opening a door.
|
Shot
reverse shot
|
The
editing together of two shots from different positions. For example during a
conversation so that both people can be seen.
